PWC Instructors Course Information

This course is for candidates who wish to issue RYA Personal Watercraft Licence's (jet skis) to others. You must be an experienced PWC driver to participate in this course.
Most large motor boats and super yachts carry jet skis and wave riders (PWC personal water craft) for guests’ entertainment. Captains are concerned about guests safety onboard a personal water craft and the legal consequences if an accident was to occur. In the med all maritime administrations require jet ski operators to be licensed and hold a certificate. The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) has developed clear standards for the operation of personal watercraft (jet skis), including the rule that if jets skis / PWC are on a yacht, the yacht must employ a qualified RYA PWC instructor. Many yachts in the Med today have become certified as RYA PWC training schools so as to ensure jet ski operation is legitimate.

For those who work in the yachting industry or who want to start working in the yachting industry obtaining the RYA PWC Instructors course will greatly increase your chances of employment on yachts. There is much demand for yacht crew who hold the PWC Instructor certificate.

PWC instructors can now run the RYA's new Introduction to PWC safety course, which is designed for guests on super yachts. When you have charter guests or yacht owners onboard who are keen to go for a Jet Ski ride, they can be certified in a matter of hours. The yacht guests, captain and team can feel more at ease knowing everyone is in capable hands and is certified to drive” a PWC. Zephyr Yachting can train yacht crew up to PWC Instructor level and assist with the required paperwork for Superyacht RYA PWC centre inspection. We can come directly to you and your yacht to train your staff in course delivery and risk assessments while the yacht is moving from one place to another.

This certificate does not automatically allow successful candidates to run courses on their yachts. The yacht would have to become an RYA recognised training centre. This can be arranged by Zephyr Yachting. Candidates will be have been trained and assessed to run the RYA's Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course by a qualified RYA trainer.

PWC Instructor Course Requirements

Duration: 3 Days
Price: €950 (price includes fuel, and Course book). Please note that at the end of your course, you will need to register yourself as an instructor directly with the RYA, this incurs a fee payable to the RYA unless you are a member. We recommend students become RYA members for that reason.

Previous experience: candidates must obtain a PWC proficiency licence/jet ski course before carrying out the course (available from Zephyr Yachting)

People who are an RYA Powerboat Instructor may attend the one day PWC course and then a one day conversion course, rather than the full course. Please contact us for details.

You will need a valid First Aid certificate to attend this course.
