Helmsman
This course is the beginning of the motor cruiser scheme, its aim is to teach boat safety, helmsmanship and boat handling with an introduction to engine maintenance. Duration: 2 Days Price: €720  Day Skipper
This will enable candidates to skipper a motor cruiser in familiar waters by day. Candidates will be taught pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation. A minimum pre-course experience of 2 days is recommended. Duration: 4 Days Price: €1,100  Coastal Skipper Practical
Before taking this course it is virtually essential to have attended the equivalent shorebased course, to ensure that time is not wasted teaching theory on board. An important aspect of this course is learning to take command and make decisions resulting in relaxed, well-planned passages and a happy crew. Candidates will be taught skippering techniques for coastal and offshore passages by day and night, Boat handling and meteorology. This course is undertaken in a twin engine motor cruiser. The pre-exam requirements are as follows:

This is a safety course for candidates wishing to operate P.W.C. (personal water craft). It prepares them and makes them aware of the dangers of such craft and how to handle them in a safe manner. Personal watercraft instructors are experienced PWC drivers who have been trained and assessed to run the RYA's Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course. PWC instructors can now also run the RYA's new Introduction to PWC Safety course, which is designed for guests on Super Yachts. This certificate does not automatically allow successful candidates to run courses on their yachts. The yacht would have to be an RYA recognised training centre as well. This certificate is mandatory for any persons wishing to operate a V.H.F. radio onboard their vessel.
